Chile's copper exports off to a good start in 2013

Chilean copper exports increased 8.52% to US$3.47bn in January, compared to US$3.20bn during the same month in 2012, according to figures compiled by the central bank.

Revenue from cathodes fell 9.35% to US$1.75bn, while concentrate exports soared 40.9% year-on-year to US$1.34bn.
The metal's price during the first month of the current year inched up to an average US$3.651/lb, compared to US$3.648/lb in January 2012.
Chile's total mining exports showed a year-on-year increase of 6.87% to US$3.83bn for the month of January. Gold was the only other metal that saw shipments increase, rising 6.75% to US$143mn.
Meanwhile, iron ore exports declined 0.77%, coming in at US$129mn in January. Silver exports dropped to US$43mn, compared to US$51mn in the 2012 period, and molybdenum shipments were down 64.3% to US$6mn.
