Capturing Carbon

North of Mobile, Alabama, Southern Co. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are running the world's biggest demonstration for capturing carbon dioxide from the smokestack of a power plant. The plant can trap 500 tons of CO2 each day. To flourish, the enhanced oil recovery business will need CO2 from both power plants burning both coal and natural gas, and from the manufacturing of such chemicals as ammonia. President Barack Obama may spur the capture of CO2 by placing new limits on plant emissions.
